Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND) prepares data from crisis regions for the NSA

Martina Renner, coordinator of the Left in the NSA committee of the Bundestag criticized the work of the BND as "unconstitutional mass surveillance abroad". In the Bavarian town of Bad Aibling the BND prepares all traffic tapped  by its connections in Afghanistan, Somalia and the Middle East, and then delivers the results to the NSA. Affected was "any type of communication: telephony, Internet access, e-mail, GPS data processing". The NSA also provides the keywords for the data mining, such as phone numbers, e-mail accounts and IP addresses of the target population.

'Der frühere Verfassungsgerichtspräsident Hans-Jürgen Papier hält die Auslandsüberwachung des Bundesnachrichtendienstes (BND) für teils grundgesetzwidrig. Im Interview mit der "Süddeutschen Zeitung" widersprach der Staatsrechtler der Auffassung von BND und Bundesregierung, im Ausland könne der deutsche Auslandsgeheimdienst nach Belieben E-Mails ausspähen und Telefonate abhören, sofern kein deutscher Staatsbürger betroffen ist. "Das ist vom Grundgesetz nicht gedeckt." Papier wirft der Bundesregierung vor, ein entsprechendes Urteil des Bundesverfassungsgericht aus dem Jahr 1999 zu ignorieren.'
