The clock is ticking

Actually, especially at the end of the year, we try to convince our readers to donate to our causes to protect privacy, our fundamental rights and freedom of information. Today we want to deviate from this and publish a letter from Jane Fonda, which we received yesterday, to promote the campaign against man-made climate change.

We are living at the last possible moment in human history when we can do something to stop runaway climate change. If we fail to do so, we could deny hundreds of millions of their right to a livable planet.

This is not hyperbole. This is our call to action. The clock is ticking. And our planet doesn’t need excuses. It needs all of us. It needs you.

Join me in fighting back alongside Greenpeace. Please act with urgency.

I started working with Greenpeace because I saw the urgency with which we needed climate action — and I knew Greenpeacers like you were going to get it done. With you by our side, we will fight for a better, cleaner future for us all.

I know they may say it can’t be done, but we know they’re wrong.

Don’t delay … the environment needs you. Give today and help me in our fight for a better future for all. Greenpeace never takes a dime from corporations or governments. Everything we do is thanks to the generous support of people like you!

Sincerely,
Jane Fonda
Actor, Activist, and Fire Drill Fridays Founder

This is also a tribute to Jane Fonda's accomplishments over the past 60 years, beginning in the worldwide fight against the Vietnam War in the 1960s and 1970s and her decades-long commitment to the civil rights movement in the United States.

Kommentar: RE: 20201228 Es ist Zeit zum Handeln

Ja, das wissen wir schon seit über 100 Jahren, siehe diesen Zeitungsausschnitt vom 14.8.1912:
A clipping from the 14 August 1912 edition of the Rodney and Otamatea Times, Waitemata and Kaipara Gazette included a brief item headlined “Coal Consumption Affecting Climate”:
The furnaces of the world are now burning about 2,000,000,000 tons of coal a year. When this is burned, uniting with oxygen, it adds about 7,000,000,000 tons of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere yearly. This tends to make the air a more effective blanket for the earth and to raise its temperature. The effect may be considerable in a few centuries.
