Launch FRA's Fundamental Rights Report 2020

As a member of the Fundamental Rights Platform (FRA), Aktion Freiheit statt Angst regularly documents its publications when they concern our issues. Yesterday the FRA has now presented its Fundamental Rights Report 2020, it writes:

We are pleased to share with you the Fundamental Rights Report 2020, which the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights issues today on its website.

The report reviews the main developments and shortfalls of human rights protection in the EU in 2019 regarding: equality and non-discrimination; racism, xenophobia and related intolerance; Roma equality and inclusion; asylum, borders and migration; information society, privacy and data protection; child rights; access to justice; and implementing the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities.

Given the period covered, the report also addresses developments in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. For the first time, it also covers two candidate countries for accession to the EU, the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Serbia.

This year's focus section of the report, 'Ten years on: unlocking the Charter's full potential', outlines the past decade's achievements as well as persisting hurdles of this modern and comprehensive legal instrument. It shows that national courts are making more use of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. We hope the insights presented encourage others, including governments, legal practitioners, National Human Rights Institutions, civil society actors, academia and professional associations to take ownership of this great instrument - and give it full force so that it can truly help transform people's lives.

The Fundamental Rights Report 2020 also presents FRA's opinions on the outlined developments. Available in all EU languages, these opinions recommend a range of evidence-based, timely and practical actions for consideration by EU bodies and national governments.
