Only a ballot paper can really be checked

Motherboard reported several months ago that the company Election Systems and Software (ES&S) in Apri 2018 in a letter to Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) has confirmed that they sold "pcAnywhere remote connection software... to a small number of customers between 2000 and 2006" and this software was installed on the ES&S voting management system.

This statement contradicts what the company said to the New York Times fact checkers in February 2018. At that time, a spokesman said that ES&S had never installed pcAnywhere on an election system. At least 60% of ballots cast in US elections in 2006 were tabulated on ES&S election management systems.

In December 2007, pcAnywhere ceased to be installed on systems after the Election Support Commission, which oversees the auditing and certification of the voting systems, demanded that each voting system should contain only software essential for voting and tabulation.

In 2012 it became known that hackers had stolen the source code for the pcAnyhere software exactly in 2006. At the time, Symantec, the manufacturer of pcAnywhere, warned all users to continue using the software. Security researchers had discovered a critical vulnerability in pcAnywhere that allowed an attacker to gain control of a system on which the software was installed without having to log on to the system with a password.

Only one official access to pcAnywhere on voting machines is known. In May 2006 in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, ES&S technicians were using pcAnywhere software for hours and hours in an attempt to "equalize" differences in votes in a local election, as a report proves that is now known.

According to the Erdogan AKP procedure yesterday, the Democrats in the USA could now doubt the correct election of George W. Bush in 2001 and 2005 and demand new presidential elections. ;-)
