UN Finds US-Backed Forces Killed More Afghan Civilians Than Taliban and ISIS Did So Far in 2019

In view of the imminent day of victory over Hitler's fascism in the coming week, we must unfortunately note that, in addition to worldwide armament, the armed conflicts are also continuing. For 18 years the Bundeswehr has been fighting together with other NATO states at the Hindukush.

"Drilling wells" and sending girls to school was probably never the main task, but now we have to take note of the fact that more people of Afghanistan are killed by our participation in this war than by the official threat of Islamists.

Common Dreams writes: In an "unprecedented" revelation that highlights the consequences of the seemingly endless war in Afghanistan, the United Nations announced Wednesday that U.S.-backed forces killed more Afghan civilians than the Taliban and other armed anti-government groups did in the first three months of this year.

A new quarterly report (pdf) from the U.N. Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) shows that "pro-government forces," including both Afghan and international troops, killed 305 civilians from January to the end of March. That compared with 227 civilians killed by "anti-government elements" such as the Taliban and ISIS. There were 49 unattributable deaths, which includes those caught in crossfire.

Emran Feroz, a Austro-Afghan independent journalist  tweets last week: In Afghanistan, massive airstrikes, drone operations, and brutal night raids are killing more civilians in these days than any insurgent group does. ... This is not a surprise for those who are researching for years.

In recent months, the Taliban has engaged in talks with United States but refused to negotiate directly with Ghani's government.

Kommentar: RE: 20190502 "Chirugische Schläge" treffen immer mehr Zivilisten

Pentagon operations often use military speak to hide that they often kill the wrong people with little to no accountability for the resulting trauma.
Luul Dahir Mohamed and her daughter Mariam were killed in a 2018 U.S. drone strike in Somalia. Despite a military investigation acknowledging these deaths, there has been no compensation or apology. Abubakar Dahir Mohamed, Luul’s brother, has been tirelessly seeking justice, to no avail.
This pattern repeats across continents, from Somalia to Syria, where people are killed or shattered by U.S. military actions with no recourse for the survivors or families.
We cannot be silent while those impacted by U.S. military actions are left without support. Demand the Pentagon compensate civilians harmed in U.S. airstrikes.
