Neue Veröffentlichung der FRA zu zivilgesellschaftlichen Rettungsschiffen im Mittelmeer

Als Mitglied der Fundamental Rights Platform (FRA) dokumentiert Aktion Freiheit statt Angst regelmäßig deren Veröffentlichungen, wenn sie unsere Themen betreffen. Die FRA berichtet heute über ein Papier zu den Problemen, die NGOs bei der Rettung von Geflüchteten im Mittelmeer bekommen nachdem Italien diesen Booten die Anlandung dort verweigert.

New FRA paper on NGO ships involved in search and rescue

Dear All,
We would like to inform you about a new FRA paper that might be of specific interest to civil society organisations, on "Fundamental rights considerations: NGO ships involved in search and rescue in the Mediterranean and criminal investigations". This note draws attention to the recent trend of criminalising search and rescue operations (SAR) carried out by non-governmental organisations (NGOs) or other private entities. This includes seizing rescue vessels, as well as arrests for crew members, in some EU Member States. Most of such incidents concerned NGOs operating in the Central Mediterranean Sea. Aktion Freiheit statt Angst hätte sich eine deutlichere Stellungnahme zu den menschenrechtswidrigen Maßnahmen der italienischen Regierung gewünscht. Positiv bleibt, dass die Fundamental Rights Agency der EU das Vorgehen gegen die Seenotretter überhaupt kritisiert.
