Der FRA Newsletter berichtete heute u.a.

Long-term EU residents at risk from wider scope of EU visa system (VIS)

Long-term residents could find their sensitive personal data stored indefinitely, under new proposals for the EU’s Visa Information System (VIS). This poses privacy and data protection risks, according to the latest FRA Opinion http://fra.europa.eu/en/news/2018/long-term-eu-residents-risk-wider-scope-eu-visa-system.

VIS holds data on over 52 million visitors to the EU. Current plans could extend that by 20 million people, including all non-EU citizens residing in EU Member States.

Labour inspections to better protect workers from severe exploitation

Workplace inspections are often lacking or ineffective, enabling unscrupulous employers to exploit their workers, finds FRA’s latest report
http://fra.europa.eu/en/press-release/2018/labour-inspections-better-protect-workers-severe-exploitation

Tightening up inspections to combat abuse and empower workers to report abuse are some ways FRA suggests to help end severe labour exploitation. For more information also see the related factsheet http://fra.europa.eu/en/publication/2018/workplace-inspections-factsheet.
