Surveillance report presented at high-level expert internet governance groupThe Agency will present its second report on surveillance by intelligence services: fundamental rights safeguards and remedies in the EU http://fra.europa.eu/en/publication/2017/surveillance-intelligence-socio-lega to the High Level Expert Group on Internet Governance in Brussels, on 23 January. The meeting will bring together stakeholders and representatives from Member States. FRA explores fundamental rights implications of biometrics at computers, privacy & data protection conferenceFRA will host a panel discussion at the annual Computers, Privacy & Data Protection conference http://www.cpdpconferences.org/ in Brussels on 26 January. The panel http://www.cpdpconferences.org/fri26012018a42g.html will discuss the fundamental rights implications of using biometrics in Europe's large-scale migration and security information systems. Discussions will cover both existing systems as well as proposed systems. The advantages and disadvantages of using biometrics will be explored. During the conference, the Agency will also draw on its surveillance findings https://fra.europa.eu/en/publication/2017/surveillance-intelligence-socio-lega during a panel discussion on 25 January http://www.cpdpconferences.org/thu25012018gh.html on whether the nationality of an individual under surveillance is and should be relevant to the legal standards for surveillance.
