Scott Pruitt has sued the EPA - now he could be in charge of it
Trump No. 8: As Friends of the Earth have written us Donald Trump picked Scott Pruitt -- a climate denier and Big Oil crony -- to lead the EPA. Our environmental protections are in big trouble -- unless you stop Pruitt from getting the job.
The Senate will start confirmation hearings in early January. We don't have much time to pull together a defense for this critical agency.
Help block climate denier Scott Pruitt from leading the EPA.
Scott Pruitt has been Oklahoma's Attorney General since 2011. He used that position to impede the very agency he's now charged with leading. He boasted that he "led the charge … against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for their leadership's activist agenda."
He has sued the EPA multiple times to roll back the Clean Power Plan and the Clean Water Rule.
And he fought the Obama administration's plan to reduce haze in Oklahoma by requiring coal-burning plants to install new pollution control equipment.
It's no secret why Pruitt has been so hostile to the EPA. After all, since 2002, he's received nearly $315,000 from fossil fuel industries.
As head of the EPA, Pruitt would have a lot of power to roll back our progress. He has lots of friends in the fossil fuel industry. They stand to make big money off of polluting our planet. And Pruitt wants to make it easy for them -- no matter what the cost to people or the environment.
Don't let Scott Pruitt rip apart our environmental protections!
At Friends of the Earth, we're working to expose and defeat Trump's terrible appointees like Pruitt. If we want to stop them from taking office, we need to turn the pressure all the way up on Senate Democrats to hold the line and refuse to confirm them. And we need to convince a couple swing Republicans not to hand over our environment to Big Oil.
