Located in southwestern Germany, the U.S. government's Ramstein Air Base is serving key functions for nonstop war that has been hugely destructive in many countries. The Ramstein base is essential to drone warfare and many other forms of military intervention, from Pakistan and Afghanistan to the Middle East and Africa.

To: President Barack Obama, Chancellor Angela Merkel, the U.S. Congress and the German Bundestag

War efforts by the U.S. government, NATO and allies are causing vast human misery in many countries, where most of the inhabitants are Muslims and people of color. The results include fueling of hatreds, worsening of refugee crises, and inflaming of xenophobia. We condemn racism and bigotry in any form, and we urge you to set aside what Martin Luther King Jr. called "the madness of militarism."

The Ramstein Air Base's crucial role in relaying signals for drone strikes is binding the United States and Germany in an unconscionable program for extrajudicial killings. That program receives major help from German intelligence agencies, which assist with drone targeting as they share surveillance data with the U.S. government. Ramstein is also central to many other military aspects of the "war on terror" that continues to have such profoundly negative consequences in many nations.

While urgently calling for the de-escalation of conflicts and for serious negotiations, we support nonviolent movements in opposition to the Ramstein Air Base and other U.S. military bases around the globe.

We urge you to take immediate steps to close the Ramstein Air Base and not replace its functions at any other location.

Petitionen haben ja auch in der Vergangenheit schon richtig viel bewirkt. Nächstes Wochenende an Ramstein stehen bewirkt sicher ein wenig mehr.

Liebe Friedensfreundinnen und Friedensfreunde,

der Frieden ist bedroht. Drohnen töten täglich, es gibt immer mehr Rüstung auf der Welt, die Konfrontation nimmt zu, selbst ein großer Krieg mit Atomwaffen scheint möglich. Drehkreuz für dies alles ist Ramstein! Ramstein ist ein zentrales Kettenglied des Krieges, der Zerstörung, des Geistes der Unmenschlichkeit und der Vernichtung. Ramstein ist ein Synonym für Krieg.

Wir wollen Frieden auf der Erde und zwischen den Menschen, wir wollen soziale Gerechtigkeit und ökologische Nachhaltigkeit, Demokratie und Menschenrechte. Deswegen wenden wir uns an alle, die besorgt sind um den Frieden und die Zukunft: Mach mit bei der Menschenkette am 11.06.2016 in Ramstein!

Jetzt ein Zeichen setzen, jetzt nicht mehr alles hinnehmen, selbst aktiv werden für den Frieden, das ist der Gedanke der Menschenkette um die Air Base und in der Region Kaiserslautern, in Landstuhl und Ramstein-Miesenbach. Den Tot der Flüchtenden beenden, die Grausamkeit des Sterbens auf den Meeren überwinden, geht nur durch Frieden und einem Ende der Kriege, nur durch die Überwindung der schreienden Ungerechtigkeit und der täglich tötenden Armut.

Dafür wollen wir gemeinsam auf der Menschenkette eintreten. Mit allen, die in unserem Lande leben und wirken und die zu uns gekommen sind. Drohnen stoppen, die 1,8 Billionen Rüstungsausgaben weltweit für die Menschen nutzen, zivile Arbeitsplätze durch Konversion, das ist unsere Vision.

Deshalb Stopp Ramstein, deshalb eine bunte und vielfältige Menschenkette für den Frieden am 11.06.2016. Diese Menschenkette wird nur durch Dich und Dich, durch uns alle, ein Erfolg.

It is surprising, alarming, shocking: shortly before the peace actions accompanied by the big human chain will take place in and around Ramstein, a service regulation has been issued to all members of staff of the US airbase in Ramstein, requesting them to keep away from the actions planned. Even more, it has been implied that the protestors tend to violent actions - their non-violent commitment for a world without war has thus been maligned. What else could be the reason for asking all members of staff to contact the “Wing Antiterrorism” in case of any questions coming up? It says a lot about the strategic judgement of the US-American Armed Forces to entrust the “Wing Antiterrorism” with this issue. It simply is a libelous insinuation in the direction of the German and international peace movement. This movement is open, democratic, participatory and peaceful.

Our actions are not in the least related to terrorist activities. They are simply – but in this, they are strong – a courageous standing up for peace on earth. They are an open, dedicated, thoroughly peaceful protest against the US drone war policy which was not only described as “international war terrorism” by Noam Chomsky.

Commitment to a peaceful, socially just world is never exclusive, it is inclusive and therefore includes all American citizens interested in peace. This holds even more true since several US-American citizens will give a speech at the rallies next weekend. We hence invite all members of the US-armed forces as well as all civil servants working on the US-air base at Ramstein to participate in our actions.
