People who feel that they are constantly being watched and monitored are no longer free, are restrained from standing up for their rights and a just society in an unbiased and courageous manner. Accumulating information indiscriminately about all citizens does not enhance our protection against crime; it only costs us billions every year. a) continue to require indiscriminate retention ofcommunications data b) have their intelligence services process communications data ofpeople We also expect the Commission to follow the European Parliament's recommendations on IT security as set out in its resolution of 12 March 2014 on the US NSA surveillance programme.
