12.04.2014 Fundamental Rights Meeting in Wien

7th Fundamental Rights Platform meeting

As a member of the European Fundamental Rights Platform Aktion Freiheit statt Angst has participated at the 7th Fundamental Rights Platform meeting in Vienna.

This year’s FRA annual Fundamental Rights Platform (FRP) meeting focused on “Future fundamental rights priorities in the area of freedom, security and justice – The contribution of civil society”. The event brought together around 200 civil society organisations, to discuss what and how civil society could contribute to making fundamental rights a reality for everyone. Throughout the meeting, FRA invited everyone to participate, so that every voice could contribute to the meeting outcomes.

Participants had decided via an online survey prior to the meeting which topics they thought should be discussed in working groups. Those discussions saw a vibrant exchange on what the main challenges are, what works already, what we can learn from the success factors that make good practices work, and what would be important next steps to take and by whom.

As in past years, civil society organisations were also invited to host their own sessions in “The floor is yours”. 21 sessions covered a broad variety of topics, which will also feed into the final meeting report. All meeting outcomes will be compiled into a final report, which will be handed over to the Council of the EU in early May.

A report on the subjects concerning us will follow here ...
