17.02.2011: US Regierung hat selbst Schwierigkeiten im Umgang mit Demonstrationsrecht

Während Außenministerin Hillary Clinton in ihrer Rede an der George Washington University die Regierungen verurteilte, die Demonstranten verhaften und keine freie Meinungsäußerung erlauben, wurde der 71-jährige Ray McGovern aus dem Publikum von der Polizei und Beamten in Zivil gepackt und aus dem Raum gezerrt. Er kam mit Blutungen und Prellungen ins Gefängnis und wurde nicht behandelt. Seine einzige Aktion war mit einem Veteranen-Friedens T-Shirt stehen zu bleiben.
Mr. McGovern is being represented by the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund (PCJF). "It is the ultimate definition of lip service that Secretary of State Clinton would be trumpeting the U.S. government's supposed concerns for free speech rights and this man would be simultaneously brutalized and arrested for engaging in a peaceful act of dissent at her speech," stated attorney Mara Verheyden-Hilliard of the PCJF.
