8th AMOK Parade under the slogan "Red Poppy"

Together with the alliance Schools Without the Military, we marched today during the 8th AMOK Parade from Alexanderplatz to the Brandenburg Gate.
The AMOK Parade is one of several activities organized by the peace movement in connection with this year’s vote in the Bundestag on extending the mandate for the Bundeswehr’s deployment in Afghanistan.
AMOK is a satirical demonstration. We aim to satirize politicians’ statements and actions through exaggerated and even absurd group scenes and individual portrayals. Through exaggeration and irony, we seek to highlight the hypocrisy and madness of war policies.
In line with the parliamentary vote to extend the mission in Afghanistan, the code word for this year’s AMOK parade on the evening before is "Red Poppy."
In the presence of War Minister von und zu Guttenberg and the Chancellor, who want to sell the business of war to the public as a crisis-proof job, a bitterly angry celebratory parade marches from Alexanderplatz, along the Linden to the Brandenburg Gate. The procession includes recruitment squads, youth officers, victims of war, proud widows, and others. Guttemberg explains the war in Afghanistan to the people and awards medals to the living and the dead.
